The Lightsaber

Be honest now, who wouldn't want a Lightsaber? A REAL Lightsaber?... yeah that's right, we all would... "Overtake me on your flash motorbike huh... 'FWOOM', Hah, not so clever without handlebars are you?!"

While technology is moving incredibly fast, and science fiction is all too quickly becoming science fact, we are still a long way off being able to produce a real working Lightsaber, at least in the way George Lucas envisaged them in his epic Star Wars movies.

So the next best thing is to get yourself replica or cheap (sometimes!) toy version of your favorite weapon. I myself gave into the geek side last year and bought a Mace Windu Force FX Lightsaber!

The list of Lightsaber related products is almost endless, but I thought I would share a few of the better, funnier, or just more blog worthy that I have come across recently (check the pictures above).

Nintendo DS Lightsaber stylus
Available via Amazon (plus elsewhere if you can be bothered to look I expect), is a 3-pack of Lightsaber styluses (styli?), and they're officially licensed by both Star Wars and Nintendo! There are two types of product here, a standard 3 pack that will cost you around $7.99 and a much fancier 2 piece set of larger light-up sabers that will cost you around $16.99. These would make an excellent replacement for anything that using a stylus, including my LG Viewty!

Lightsaber Laser Pointers
Designed to look like the ones donned by Star Wars villains Darth Vader and Darth Maul, they slip onto any keychain, and project a tiny red laser beam. You so know that you are going to take one into your next presentation and make a 'fwoom' sound in your head as you use it! Again available from Amazon via these links, Darth Vader Lightsaber Laser Pointer ($16.49) and Darth Maul Lightsaber Laser Pointer ($13.50). However, as green and blue lasers are now also quite common, I would have liked to see some Luke and Yoda variants too...

Interactive Star Wars lightsaber game
Remember that scene from Episode IV: A New Hope, where Luke is training in the Millenium Falcon with the hovering droid? The Interactive Star Wars Game will let you relive it, and the bonus here is that it won't zap you when you fail to intercept the laser bolts with your lightsaber. ust plug the training "droid" into your TV via an included RCA cable, and it will detect just about every movement of your lightsaber wirelessly. Your onscreen avatar can be Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, or Yoda. Consider it Guitar Hero for Jedis. Just do yourself a favor, and remove all breakable objects from the play area, as you are wielding a 15" lightsaber. It retails for $49.95.

Lightsaber Umbrellas
The first thing that sprang to mind was "Why would you?", but the second thing was "I so want one of those!". The Light Saber Umbrella generally looks like a regular umbrella, though the prop handle and glowing center pole give it away as anything but. You can apparently choose from red-top/red-light, black-top/white-light and blue-top/blue-light umbrella combos for about $42.00 each. Not sure if these started life as a replica Bladerunner Umbrella though. If you can read Korean you can get one here.
