Doomsday comes to Smallville

Ever since the Death of Superman story line from 1992 (was it really 17 years ago!?) I have wanted to see Doomsday brought to life. I relished the character in the comics (utter destruction with no remorse...perfect) and always thought that he would be a powerful image on a big screen. Sadly this wasn't to be. Tim Burton played with the idea of Doomsday for his ill fated (and poorly thought out, c'mon... Nick Cage as Superman?) Superman Lives movie.

I had hoped that Bryan Singer would use Doomsday in his offering, Superman Returns, but that didn't happen (probably because he chose to grovel at the feet of the 1978 Superman Movie and wasted a golden opportunity).

There have been cartoon versions of Doomsday in Warner Brother's Animated Superman series and movies, and even a Superman: Doomsday movie, and these were actually quite good. Yet still I craved a real life, walking, breathing portrayel of the character.

Well now at long last, we have one. Series 8 of Smallville has just introduced Doomsday into their story lines, and it looks like they have made a reasonable job of it too. So far we have only seen glimpses of him in episode 10 (Bride), but that is better than nothing. I look forward to seeing the next episodes, and wait with baited breath for the final glorious all out slugfest that the writers will hopefully treat us to!

Well, I can dream can't I ..?
