Open Up Now

It's the same the world over. Governments are full of Politicians who have been in the system for too long. They are out of touch with modern society and no longer represent the needs and wishes of the common man, for whom they are supposed to advocate (they work in the House of Commons for goodness sake!). These men and women are now part of the 'Old Boy' network that runs through our political system, that ensures those with positions of power cannot be removed, and are indeed elected and re-elected despite there being better people to fill their guarded jobs.

These political misfits parasites have been allowed to wallow in their own gluttony for too long, and that's why Open Up Now is such a fantastic idea. It's a website dedicated to pushing for change in our political system. To make all politicians stand each and every time against new candidates for their positions, to finally give the public a chance to really elect our best and most deserving candidate. I certainly don't remember asking Gordon "it's my money not yours" Brown to be my leader (actually this was was a shrewd move but exiting PM Tony Blair, by appointing a even lesser liked successor he now seems not quite so bad!), but me leader he is, and I'm stuck with him!

Here is a description of Open Up Now's premise, taken from the site itself:

It's time to Open Up politics. Respect for the UK's political system continues to plummet at a time when we need great government and a strong democracy more than ever.

But together we can do something about it.

This is what Open Up is about. We want an honest, effective and modern democracy. We want a government of the best possible people, who truly represent us. We want to feel proud of our politicians again, to feel proud of our government, to feel proud of our country.

It's not just about expenses. It's about reforming our political system. The way Parliament is run and government does business must change - and getting the best possible people into office is the starting point.

That's why we want the people, not the politicians, to select who stands for election. That's why we want Open Primaries in every constituency, where the people select their own candidates, and where anyone can put themselves forward to be a candidate. That's why we want all current MPs to agree to stand for re-selection in an Open Primary. We want this before the next General Election. And this is what Open Up is calling on every political party to do.

So what can we do to help?

Well quite simply we should all sign up their website and make our collective voices so loud that those in power cannot fail but to take notice.

Guy Fawkes was a bit extreme but had the right idea. Let's start taking back our rights, and our country, and make our so called leaders justify themselves, their actions, and their positions.
