The new Karate Kid

Remember the original Karate Kid? The one with Daniel San and Mr. Miagi (Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita)? Remember what a classic that film that was for our generation (us old farts that is)? Well now there is a new Karate Kid, for a new generation.

This new Karate Kid stars Jakie Chan and Jaden Smith (son of Will Smith) as the main protagonists. Directed by Harald Zwart (The Pink Panther 2) and due for release in June 2010 the plot centers on Jaden Smith's character, who moves to Beijing with his mother where he encounters a bully situation similar to Macchio's in his new locale. Smith's character will be named Dre instead of Daniel, and take lessons from the decidedly un-Japanese martial arts master Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan.

Not sure how I feel about the movie yet but the trailer does seem to stand up. Will be an interesting one to watch.
